How long will the canvas material last?
In the 50’s, 60’s, and early 70’s a Roll-out Awning was indeed made from canvas. When they got wet and didn’t dry out completely the canvas would rot and mildew. Today, almost all Roll-out Awnings are made from acrylic, which is much more durable and comes in a wide array of colors and patterns.
Some awnings I see on TV have support posts. Why don’t your awnings need them?
There are hundreds of companies that manufacture Roll-out Awnings around the world and thousands of companies that sell and install them.
The framework and arms of the Eclipse
Awnings are so sturdily built that we don’t need support posts. This allows you to move about on your deck or patio with greater ease and provides you with a better view.

Why are your Sunscreens installed on the outside of the windows?
The sun creates three problems for homeowners… heat gain into your house; fading of flooring and furnishings; and glare on TV’s, computers or the brightness in your eyes. You can stop fading and glare with the use of an interior shade but this generally causes you to lose your vision to the outside. Stopping the heat gain that occurs when the sun touches the glass of your windows can only be effective if your window covering is on the outside, preventing the sun from impacting the glass.

The edge retention system gives us great flexibility in covering multiple windows with one screen, up to 16’ wide and 10’ tall. We reduce the size by 20-25% if you want us to cover a patio or open porch area.
If the Sunscreen is so effective why can I still see through it?
The screen, produced in Europe for many years, is a vinyl coated fiberglass material. Your ability to see through it comes from the intricate method by which the screen material is woven. We have two openness factors for you to choose from depending upon a variety of circumstances… direction the window faces, your daily routine, bodies of water, presence of computers or TV’s in the room and some medical conditions.

The house we built features a covered sun porch that is open on two sides. Can your sunscreens be installed on these large openings to block the sun?
We have installed our See-thru Sunscreens on many covered sun porches, patios and decks. As you will see from the slide show to the right, we can cover openings up to 12' x 7'. Not only will we make it cooler on your sun porch, we will also knock down light winds and keep the insects outside...where they belong. Whether or not we can install our sunscreens for your needs will be determined when one of the owners, Rich or Craig, evaluate it.

What happens if we leave the sunscreen down in high winds?
First and foremost, our See-thru Sunscreen is just that… a Sunscreen. If the wind is blowing 30 mph or greater the sun hasn’t been out for a while. We simply ask you to use common sense and roll it up into its protective panel box. Once inside the panel box the winds can blow up to 100 mph and the screens will be protected.
On the other hand, our long-time manufacturer, Talius, has devised a unique edge retention system that will keep the sunscreen safely in it’s side tracks in winds up to 41 mph, depending on the overall size. |

Can you help us? We have arched windows above the picture windows on the south side of our house. No one we talk to has a solution.
We have been solving the sun problems you describe for 15 years on half-moon, triangular, and trapezoid windows throughout Western Washington.
We have two options for you:
|
|
As you can see from the pictures to the left, we can install our See-thru Sunscreens over the half-moon window and the rectangular window below it with one operable sunscreen.
Or, as you can see from the pictures to the right, we can install the operable sunscreen over the rectangular windows and "block that sun" from the arched windows with a fixed sunscreen. These unique fixed sunscreens can be removed in the fall and reinstalled each spring...or simply leave them in place year round. |

Where did rollshutters originate?
Rolling shutters were first used in Europe in the 1920's for security and cold weather insulation. Many of these original rolling shutters are still in use today. From Germany, Italy and Greece to Spain, Portugal and France you will find rolling shutters on most homes and businesses.
Arriving in the United States in Florida in the mid-60's, our rollshutters have been introduced in all 50 states. SunBlockers Northwest has been offering rollshutter products throughout Western Washington since 1990.
While a few American companies have tried to copy the manufacturing of the rollshutter components we have always used the high quality products of a manufacturer in Germany.
What options are available?
Too many to list. That's why we continue to do business with Talius, the same manufacturer we carefully chose in 1990. There are seven options for the style of operation, five styles of profiles, eight styles of guiderails, and dozens of color combinations. With over 12,000 rollshutters installed since 1990, as soon as we see your house and listen to your concerns we can begin to solve problems caused by the sun, high winds, vandalism and the chill of winter.
How long does it take to get our rollshutters once ordered?
All of our products are custom built to the specifications you agree upon. We can almost always guarantee that your new rollshutter products will be installed in 30 days or less. If you order between November and January the wait is always less and we're a little easier to deal with, as these are slow months.
When you get to our house, how long will it take to install our order?
Since 1990, 77% of our orders were installed the same day. Size of order, travel distance to the job site and inclement weather are factors that determine the other 23%.

How do I figure our cost?
A rollshutter is the one product that we will only quote by looking at your house or blueprints and asking a host of questions. The product is imported from Europe and custom assembled to your specs from an 85 page pricing book. Really. We do offer free estimates if you are located in Western Washington, excluding the San Juans Islands. With over 13,000 rollshutters installed since 1990 you can depend on our expertise to solve your security or weather related problems. |
